Fall Fun in Ohio
For a summer or fall getaway, Ohio’s Hocking Hills Region features rolling hills, forests, and peace and quiet off US 33 just south of Columbus. Here are your Buckeye’s top ten things to see and do in Hocking Hills.
1. Old Man’s Cave
A trail winds through cliffs and caves thousands of years old, making Old Man’s Cave a must-see if you’re visiting Hocking Hills.
2. Rock House
According to local folklore, Rock House was used as a shelter for robbers, bootleggers and horse thieves. Visit the Rock House and imagine the history of this natural wonder.
3. Cedar Falls
Cedar Falls is considered the most magnificent waterfalls in Hocking Hills. In autumn, the natural beauty Cedar Falls is accentuated by fall foliage, while in winter, the 50-foot waterfall turns into a stream of icicles.
4. Clear Creek Metro Park
Seems hard to believe there’s a Columbus metro park way down here, but Clear Creek Metropark is a must-see if you’re into parks.
5. Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad
Beginning in April, the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway operates regularly scheduled trains on weekends only, except for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. A relaxing way to enjoy the Hocking Hills scenery, special event runs for Christmas and other events are also available.
6. Columbus Washboard Company
Quaint Logan is the home of the Columbus Washboard Company, the only remaining washboard manufacturing company in the U.S., as well as shopping and more.
7. Buckeye Trail
You can see all of Ohio hiking the Buckeye Trail; this section heads through the heart of Hocking Hills.
8. Hocking Hills Welcome Center
You can call 1-800-HOCKING for travel assistance, or wait until you arrive and visit the Hocking Hills Welcome Center, located on US 33 just outside Logan.
9. Bird Watching
There are lots of places to bird watch in Hocking Hills–this site is devoted to birdwatching throughout the region.
